The Older / Arthritic Dog

The Older / Arthritic Dog

Just like us, our dogs age. Over time the soft tissues of their body become less flexible, joints become stiffer and mobility becomes impaired.

You may have noticed that your dog has started to change their behaviours, move differently and/or start to struggle with their normal activities of daily life.

Here are some examples:
  • Difficulty with climbing stairs
  • Energy levels decreased
  • Need your help getting in to and out of the car
  • Stiffness when getting up off their beds
  • Struggling to climb onto the sofa
  • Loosing coordination of their back legs
  • Moving slower on walks
  • Limping on a leg
  • Curving their bottom to either the left or right
  • Standing and/or moving with their backs hunched
  • Carrying their head lower
  • Standing and/or moving with a dip in their back
  • Licking/chewing front or hind paws
  • Personality changes

Canine Rebalance aims to support the Older/Arthritic dog by:

  • Addressing and relieving secondary issues, like myofascial pain
  • Relieving focal point muscular tension and discomfort
  • Providing advice on home adjustments to support your dogs’ mobility issues
  • Maintaining physical function
  • Increasing and supporting your dog’s balance and proprioception
  • Maintaining mental well being
  • Reducing inflammation

Your vet may have diagnosed your dog with an additional age-related condition such as Osteoarthritis.

Canine Rebalance believes in a multi-modal approach to support the ageing or arthritic dog. This includes maintaining close communication with your vet as this is of paramount importance to treating your dog. This is particularly true if your dog is on pain relieving medication.
