Acupressure
Acupressure therapy restores the natural flow of chi and blood via specific energy channels throughout the entire body. Acupressure address’s deficiency and imbalance caused by physical, emotional and spiritual issues. In traditional Chinese medicine ‘chi’ translates as ‘material energy’, ‘life force’ or ‘energy flow’.
By applying a very light touch to specific points along energy channels on the body, deficient energy in these channels is then attracted to the surface, therefore enabling the blood and chi to flow in balance once again.
Acupressure has been shown to:
- Release endorphins to inhibit the communication of pain signals
- Increase the feeling of happiness
- Release muscle spasm
- Increase blood supply and remove toxins and metabolic waste
- Improve mental clarity therefore increasing your dog's ability to focus on training and their performance
- Strengthen the body's immune system
The difference between Acupressure and Acupuncture
Acupressure and Acupuncture use exactly the same theories and assessment. Acupressure does have its advantages, as it is the therapist that is feeling the flow of energy unlike Acupuncture whereby a needle is used.
In addition, some points are not easily accessible with a needle as some of them are located close to bones or nerves, where as an Acupressurists’ touch is able to access these points safely.
Acupressure is non-invasive, requires only a light touch to be effective and has a relaxing and calming effect. It can be a very powerful therapy!
Benefits
Acupressure is a highly beneficial therapy for many dogs with:
- Severe pain and discomfort
- Anxiety
- Sensitivity
- Fear
- Behavioural issues
